CCR Action Network to Address Long-Range Issues

CCR’s long-term vision is to profoundly influence the success of chemistry-related science and engineering research in serving society. Our belief that this research is essential to progress in health, quality of life, and economic prosperity carries with it a sense of stewardship for the chemical enterprise, in both traditional and sustainable terms. The "chemical enterprise" includes the companies, universities, and government laboratories that are the research base for the U.S. chemical industry. Long-range issues include those that affect the ability of the chemical enterprise to produce results but are beyond normal planning horizons, as well as societal issues in which the chemical enterprise plays a key role. The potential of the chemical enterprise to affect society is vast. By its nature, chemical sciences and engineering underpin and enable many areas of science and technology, as well as the chemical industry, including health care, agriculture, materials, and microelectronics.
This goal is a new one for CCR and we are assessing where we can best contribute our knowledge while moving forward on several fronts.
Recent and On-going Activities:
Chemical Industry Vision 2020 – CCR is a sponsor of Vision 2020, the framework in which partners in the chemical enterprise create technology roadmaps for vital new chemical sciences and engineering technology.
Diversity – Minorities and women are under-represented in the CCR peer group. CCR is exploring ways to advance inclusion of people from diverse walks of life in the chemical enterprise and its leadership ranks.
