Great Lakes Chemistry Chairs Meeting

The Great Lakes Chemistry Chairs Meeting will take place on Monday, October 4, 2010, from 9am-2pm at University of Detroit Mercy. The meeting, which is free to attend, is being organized by the Council for Chemical Research as a service to its members and the field of chemical research. It will give you the opportunity to network and share ideas with your peers from the Great Lakes region. You do not need to be from a CCR member organization to attend.

A portion of the meeting will involve a discussion of the results from a recent CCR survey of Chemistry Departments with graduate programs. This survey gathered data on department budgets, faculty salaries, graduate student stipends, the number of graduate students admitted, and the number of degrees granted, and other metrics. Your input on how to modify future surveys will be requested.

There will also be time for discussion of other topics of mutual interest.  Some of the other topics already suggested include:

• Lab space
• Workloads
• How to increase enrollments
• Online chemistry classes
• Succession planning
• Maintaining academic standards

Additional Details: A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. CCR has obtained a limited number of rooms at The Henry hotel (11 miles from campus) for the night of Sunday, October 3rd. Find more details about the hotel and making reservations.
