9:00-11:00 am – Tour of the Industrial Combustion and Gasification Research Facility at the University of Utah
Experimental facilities at the Institute for Combustion and Energy Studies (ICES) at the University of Utah provide a complete suite of tools for studying a wide range of combustion and gasification processes, plus the ability to perform fuel characterization, kinetic rate determination, as well as study by-product and aerosol formation and fires. A major focus of our efforts is the coupling of large-scale computer simulations and experimental work in our industrial-style facilities for both commercial and research purposes.
The tour will focus on the Industrial Combustion and Gasification Research Facility, which is a 20,000 sq. ft. laboratory facility housed in two buildings and located off-campus, a few short miles from the Little American Hotel. This facility contains pilot-scale test furnaces for combustion (air and oxy-firing) and gasification, and includes suspension-fired, fluid-bed-fired and grate-fired facilities, as well as diesel and gas turbine engines.
