8:30 – 10:30am PLENARY SESSION 1
Location: Grand Ballroom AB, First Floor
The opening session will both introduce the meeting to the audience and start to
address the economic challenges that are facing our world in 2009. We will review the state of the chemical enterprise and the importance of water as both a resource need and a business opportunity. We will consider both the academic/government perspective as well as the industrial perspective. Robert Boege will present the findings of ASTRA regarding federal investment in S&T, Geoffrey Prentice will provide a government perspective, and Chuck Martz will present the industrial perspective.

With the uncertainty in the world economy and its impact on the chemical enterprise, CCR added a special session to this year’s meeting. We will convene a special panel with senior federal program managers from the R&D agencies that impact the chemical enterprise. They will review the status of funding opportunities in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as well as in the 2009 and 2010 funding bills. The panel will be followed by breakout sessions to enable attendees to probe for specific opportunities and collaborations that will have the high impact on their organizations.
